Three plans, three different jobs.
The tiers are capability boundaries, not quotas on the same feature. Free is a real plan people stay on, not a trial with the door held half open. Billing runs through your existing store invoice.

How paying actually works.
Who charges me?
Shopify does. The charge appears on your existing store invoice alongside your other apps. We never see or store a card number, and there is no separate account to create.
What happens when the trial ends?
Standard has 7 free days and Pro has 14. If you do nothing, the plan starts billing. If you cancel or move to Free, your rules stay exactly as you left them; the ones your new plan does not cover simply stop being enforced, and start again if you upgrade back.
Is yearly actually cheaper?
Yes, and here is the arithmetic rather than a badge. Standard is $5.99 a month or $59.90 a year, so a year costs ten months. Pro is $17.99 a month or $179.90 a year, the same ratio. Nothing else changes between the two.
What happens if I hit a limit on Free?
You are told, and nothing breaks. A shopper is never blocked because of a billing state. If a limit stops a rule from being enforced, the app says so on the screen where you set the rule, not silently.
Can I switch plans mid-month?
Yes. Shopify handles proration when you move up. Moving down takes effect on the next plan read, so a downgrade is not instantaneous at the network edge; give it a few minutes.
Start on Free. Decide later.
Every plan includes simulation, so you can read a week of your own traffic before a single visitor is turned away.
